HOLY SHIIIIIT!
THANK YOU!!
I have been obsessing about this question for years (possibly my whole life?), and now I can just spend years trying to describe it to people.
Reblogging for reference.

Holy Moses. This is magnificent.

a month back home

Things I plan to do:

  • read every day
  • run often
  • learn how to do da dancing from Darren
  • start/catch up on and finish every season of [insert TV show here]
  • Christmas shopping for not me
  • work on running blog
  • DIY everything
  • make my nieces love me
  • spend time with family
  • make memories with friends
  • learn how to cook at least one Burmese dish from mama

Free time, free time. You are so strange.

The last few days I had in Irvine before break were soo gewddd. Very eventful with good company. So I can actually remember something later: [running to] Senior Edge hangout, Baby J’s dinner, Jway’s bday party, vegetating and watching 50/50 with Ronald/Ryan/Catherine, Holiday Half, hydro-biking, all-nighter + smores, cleaning everything + taking Jerry’s Stricklands virginity + blog-writing + jamming. :)

Being able to hang out with some Edge and Puente + other friends was a really nice start to Winter Break. I know I go back and forth between groups, but I try my best to be with all of them as much as I can because I love these people! In other news, vegetating on Saturday was pretty great. Preparing for the half-marathon might be one of the most self-loving days I can recall because all I did was eat and relax and get lots of sleep. I barely trained for this Half Marathon, yet I had a faster time than my first… if only that were how life always worked. :| 2:09:32 compared to 2:28:41! The snowflake medal did not disappoint (the lack of penguin figurines in my life did). Looking back on this run and the last, I’ve realized that the human mind and the company of another can overcome much. Especially with this last run, I wanted to stop a little more than a million times, but my legs somehow continued to run. If it weren’t for Jordan telling me stories (which he never fails to do!) and my brain telling me there’s only like 13.1 miles left, I would be one of those people who get picked up by cars and driven to the finish line. It’s infinitely cliche, but we can do amazing things if we just put our minds to it, and even moreso when we receive encouragement from others. This conversation I had with myself replayed multiple times: “I am tired. I want to stop.” “Fck, Jordan is still running. I will be sad if I stop. Just go.” and alas, I go’d. The feeling you get when you cross that finish line is infinitely sweet and difficult to describe, but here’s my attempt in one word: WINNING!

Okay guys hydro-biking sounds really dumb but it’s actually super fun and romantic. I highly recommend it.

Jamming and listening to good music topped off my last night in Irvine OF THE YEAR. Being in the midst of music never fails to make me feel like I am in the right place. Being around people who appreciate the beauty of details in music is also refreshing. :) #bandgeekfolife

Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.

I love and miss my dad.
On the rare occasions when I’m back home and we do talk, it’s either an argument or about what’s for dinner. We’ve really never established a close relationship, the result of both parties not putting in the effort, but I know through his silence that he is well-intentioned, respectful, and loving.
Oh, the curse of having asian parents who never use words/sentences that literally mean they “love” or “miss” you (it’s more like “That jacket is too thin” or “You’ve gained weight”, isn’t it?). I used to get really sad about this, but then I came to the conclusion that maybe they just don’t know how to use the word properly, with what or with whom, so I’ve made it my goal to smother them with examples. Train their ears to this foreign word (that was foreign to me as well until Darren came along—thanks, Darren). First using them in the context of objects, maybe, like “I miss home food” or “I’ve always loved this couch”, and then slipping it casually into my goodbyes. “What did she say?” they might ask themselves as I drive away, but it’s aite, just planting the seeds… phase II of this plan is saying it at a comprehensible speed, with maybe even both words in the same sentence.
These are my hopes.
I also find it so amazing how one picture can bring up so many feelings! Distance definitely distorts/erases your memory of things, especially details… I need to put up family pictures in my room or something.
